The Mural Goby (Valenciennea muralis) is also commonly known as the ‘Striped Goby’ and is a member of the ‘Gobies’ family Gobiidae. It has a very broad distribution throughout the warm tropical waters of the East Indian Ocean and western Pacific. The body is bluish white in colour with several pink/brown stripes running from the head to the tail. There is a black spot at the rear of the first dorsal fin. This species is generally found on sandy/silty bottoms in shallow lagoon reefs. They are often found as pairs when adults and juveniles can be found in small groups. It is known to feed on small invertebrates by sifting mouthfuls of sand through the gills. The Mural Goby (Valenciennea muralis) grows to a maximum length of approximately 13cm. |
