Round Batfish(Platax orbicularis)
Round Batfish


The Round Batfish (Platax orbicularis) is a tropical fish species that is a member of the ‘Batfishes’ family Ephippidae.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific region.

Features: Adults are yellowish silvery or dusky in colour with a dark bar through the eye and another bar just behind head. They may also have a few small, scattered black spots on body. Juveniles

Habitat: This species is often encountered on wrecks in water depths greater than 20 metres. They are also living on coral reefs and are generally seen in pairs or small groups. Juveniles are generally encountered amongst mangroves and shallow coastal reefs. It is known to feed on algae, invertebrates and small fishes.

Depth range: 5 – 30 metres.

Maximum Length: 50cm.
