White Damsel(Dischistodus perspicillatus)
White Damsel


The White Damsel (Dischistodus perspicillatus) is one of the larger fish species from the damselfishes family Pomacentridae. It is known to occur in the tropical waters of the east Indo-western Pacific region and occurs from the Andaman Sea to north west Australia (the Rowley Shoals), the Great Barrier Reef, the Solomon Islands and north to the waters of China and Palau. This species can be found living on small reefs of shallow lagoons that contain algae or seagrass habitat. This fish is known to feed on algae and detritus. This species can be easily recognised by its white coloured body and has black blotches along its back. It can have pink and yellow colouration around the face. This species is generally solitary however it can be found in small groups. The White Damsel (Dischistodus perspicillatus) grows to a maximum length of approximately 20cm.
