The Long Nose Butterflyfish (Forcipiger flavissimus) is an easily recognised tropical fish species that belongs to the butteflyfishes family Chaetodontidae. This species is found through out the warm tropical waters of the world from the Red Sea to east Africa across to Hawaii and America. It is all found in the waters of Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and along the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. This species looks very similar to the Big Longnose Butterflyfish (Forcipiger longirostris) however its elongate snout is much shorter and it does not have the black spots on the bottom of its breast like the Big Longnose Butterflyfish. This species has a yellow body with a small black spot on the base of the anal fin. The Long Nose Butterflyfish (Forcipiger flavissimus) grows to a maximum length of approximately 22cm.
