Keyhole Angelfish(Centropyge tibicen)
Keyhole Angelfish

The Keyhole Angelfish (Centropyge tibicen) is a small tropical Angelfish species that is a member of the Pomacanthidae family. It is known to occur in the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region from Christmas Island in the East Indian Ocean across to Fiji in the Pacific Ocean, north to the waters of Japan and south to Scott Reef off Western Australia and central New South Wales. It has been recorded as far south as Montague Island in New South Wales. The body is overall coloured black and an elongate vertical black blotch can be seen on the middle of the upper side. One of the most recognisable features is the white bar on its side however this white spot shrinks as the fish ages. The dorsal, tail and anal fins have a thin blue margin whilst the anal and pelvic fins are coloured yellow. Juveniles are generally found on rocky reefs and sponge gardens in coastal estuaries and protected waters whilst adults can be found on deeper rocky and coral reefs. The Keyhole Angelfish (Centropyge tibicen) grows to a maximum length of approximately 15cm.
