The Red Glossodoris (Glossodoris rufomarginata) is a tropical nudibranch species that can be found throughout the warm waters of the Indo-western Pacific region. It has been recorded in various locations including Tanzania, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Solomon Islands, Philippines and Australia. This Glossodoris species can be recognised by its white coloured body with an orange-brown speckled pattern on the upper surface of the mantle between the gills and rhinophores. The mantle border is orange-brown with a broad white submarginal band. The gills and rhinophores are also orange-brown in colour. This species can be highly variable with it’s mantle pattern with some animals being completely covered in the orange-brown speckled pattern whilst others have very little colouration. This species is known to feed on sponges and is generally found on coral reefs. The Red Glossodoris (Glossodoris rufomarginata) grows to a maximum of approximately 5cm.
