Pink Stylochid(Stylochus sp)
Pink Stylochid

The Pink Stylochid (Stylochus sp) is a small flatworm species that is known to occur in the waters of southern Queensland – Australia. Its distribution is probably much greater however very little is known about this flatworm species. Stylochids are usually large, thick and fleshy with a rounded or oval body. The head tentacles are usually present however they can be very difficult to see as they maybe transparent and retractable. This family is one of the largest of all the polyclad flatworm families and is also commonly referred to as the ‘Oyster Leaches’ family as these flatworm species are ferocious predators of commercial bivalves such as rock and pearl oysters as well as scallops, mussels, barnacles and giant clams. This Stylochus sp can be recognised by its pink colouration with a thin pale blue border around the margin edge. The Pink Stylochid (Stylochus sp) grows to at least 3cm in length.
