Dolphinfish(Coryphaena hippurus)
Dolphinfish

The Dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus) is a pelagic fish species that is found throughout the warm tropical waters of the world. This fish is commonly referred to as Mahi Mahi or Dorado and is a very popular species with fishers. This species is found in large schools and generally can be swimming amongst ocean debris such as logs or offshore platforms or around Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs). Dolphinfish have a long elongate body that is compressed with a yellow coloured forked tail. The body is blue-green in colour with many iridescent blue spots along the side. When the Dolphinfish is caught fishing its underwater colour transforms to bright gold and looks spectacular. The Dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus) grows to approximately 2 metres in length and can weigh up to 20kg.
