The Blue Spotted Fantail Ray (Taeniura lymma) is a tropical elasmobranch stingray that belongs to the family Dasyatidae. This species is known to occur throughout the waters of the Indo-western pacific region and in Australia it is known to occur from Ningaloo Reef Marine Park in Western Australia around the north to the Capricorn Bunker Group in the southern section of the Great Barrier Reef. It is also known to occur off the east Africa coast. This species is easily identified by sandy coloured body, which is covered in many fluorescent blue spots. It can be found hiding under ledges and coral on coral reefs or on the sandy bottoms of caves. The Blue Spotted Fantail Ray (Taeniura lymma) grows to a maximum length of approximately 70cm.
