Striped Pyjama Squid (Sepioloidea lineolata) are a small cephalopod that reach a maximum size of about 7 cm. They prefer shallower waters (less than 20 metres) and can be found in sandy areas, amongst seagrass beds and rocky rubble. During the day they spend the majority of their time buried in the sand hiding from any predators that may eat them. All that can be seen of them is their two eyes protruding from the sand looking for passing prey such as small shrimp and fish. At night they become more active and leave the safety of the sand when they go out hunting for shrimp that are more active at night. They are an excellent subject to photograph and many divers consider them to be cute.
