Red Rock Cod(Scorpaena cardinalis)
Red Rock Cod


The Red Rock Cod (Scorpaena cardinalis) is a very abundant species that can be commonly seen along the east coast of Australia from southern Queensland to eastern Victoria. It is one of the commonly seen species on the coastal reefs of NSW. Its colour can vary from bright red to a dull grey brown. Juveniles can be found with white to purple blotch across the back of their head. The Red Rock Cod has 12 venomous dorsal fin spines which can inflict severe pain if someone is unfortunate enough to be stung by one. The Red Rock Cod grows to a maximum size of approximately 45 cm.
