The Maori Cod (Epinephelus undulatostriatus) is a very colourful cod species with orange/brown stripes running along the length of the body. Juveniles are more strongly striped where as the stripes on adults are broken up. They obtain a maximum size of 50 cm and they are also known in Australia as Scribbled Rock cod. They can be found in Australia from southern Queensland waters to Jervis Bay on the New South Wales south coast. It is more common in the northern waters however areas such as Port Stephens on the NSW central coast have good resident populations.
