The Longfin Bannerfish (Heniochus diphreutes) is a widespread tropical species that occurs around the northern half of Australia and extends into waters of Papua New Guinea and southern Japan. It is also found along the coast of Africa, in the Red Sea and around the Hawaiian Islands. It is found in New South Wales where it can bee seen on coastal to offshore reefs. It is generally seen in large schools and feeds on zooplankton found throughout the water column. Juveniles can often be seen in inshore estuaries either individually or in small schools.
