Humphead Maori Wrasse(Cheilinus undulatus)
Humphead Maori Wrasse

The Humphead Maori Wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus) is also refereed to as the Napoleon wrasse and is one of the most loved fish in the sea. This species can become quiet tame and there are many sites throughout the Pacific, including the Australian Great Barrier Reef, that have resident Humphead Maori Wrasse that are accustomed to being fed by divers. Adults have a large humphead on their head and can grow to a size of 2 metres.

This species is under serious threat from overfishing. It is highly sought after by live fish collectors for sale in fish markets in Asian countries. The species has recently been banned from fishing in Queensland waters. It has been heavily overfished in many regions of the asia pacific and is now considered "locally extinct" on many tropical reefs.
