The Gunthers Butterflyfish (Chaetodon guentheri) is a very timid species that will shy away from approaching divers. It belongs to the fish family Chaetodontidae and prefers coastal rocky reefs and islands as well as coastal bays and estuaries. It can be found from the Capricorn Bunker Group Islands in the Southern Great Barrier Reef to Montague Island in southern NSW. It is one of the few butterflyfish species that can tolerate cooler waters. It grows to a length of 15cm.
