The Dusky Butterflyfish (Chaetodon flavirostris) belongs to the fish family Chaetodontidae and is a shy species that is wary of approaching divers. The juveniles are similar in appearance as the adults but have an additional black spot near the end of the body. It can be found in Australian waters from Queensland to southern New South Wales and likes to live on coastal reefs. Adults can usually be seen in pairs whilst juveniles can often be found individually in estuaries. It can be found to a maximum size of 20cm.
