Purple Lined Nembrotha(Nembrotha purpureolineata)

The Purple Lined Nembrotha (Nembrotha purpureolineata) is a very attractive opisthobranch species that belongs to the nudibranch family Polyceridae. This species can be found occurring in the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region and has been recorded in various locations including South Africa, Indonesia, Komodo, Japan, Western Australia, Philippines and Papua New Guinea. This species looks very similar in appearance to Nembrotha lineolate and Nembrotha rutilans however it can be distinguished by the bright orange colouration on the mantle in front of and at the rear of the gills. This species can be found occurring on coral reefs and has been observed feeding on small blue ascidians. The Purple Lined Nembrotha (Nembrotha purpureolineata) grows to a maximum length of at least 10cm.
