The Bridled Triggerfish (Sufflamen fraenatus) is a tropical fish species that is a member of the ‘Triggerfishes’ family Balistidae. It can be found throughout the Indo-Pacific region and has been recorded from East Africa to Micronesia, Hawaii, French Polynesia and northern to the waters of southern Japan and down to Australia. It can be found on coral reefs over sand and rubble patches from depths of 8 – 180 metres. Juveniles have a white body with dark brown back with thin wavy brown lines running along the body. Adults are brown to yellow in colour with a bright yellow bar on the lower lip. Males can be distinguished by a yellow stripe that extends from the mouth to the pectoral fin base. The above image is of a male Bridled Triggerfish which have more colourful markings than the females. The Bridled Triggerfish (Sufflamen fraenatus) grows to a maximum length of approximately 38 cm.
