The Southern Biscuit Star (Tosia australis) is a small colourful seastar species that belongs to the Goniasteridae family. This species is found in the temperate waters of southern Australia and occurs from Fremantle in Western Australia around the south to Eden in New South Wales, including the waters around Tasmania. This species can be found on rocky reefs however its numbers are more abundant in protected bays and harbours. It is often found underneath jetties and on pylons. Tosia australis has six plates along each side of the body and sometimes it may have up to eight. This species is known to feed on sponges, bryozoans and ascidians. This species has a maximum arm radius of approximately 5 cm.
