The Ramsay’s Serpent Star (Ophiarachnella ramsayi) is a brittle star species from the Ophiodermatidae family. This species occurs in the temperate waters of southern Australia from the Abrolhos Islands in Western Australia around the south to the southern waters of Queensland. It is also recorded in the waters of northern Tasmania. This species occurs on rocky reefs from depths of 1 metre down to 20 metres. This species generally hides under rocks or ledges and it’s uncommon for species to find this species. It is more active at night and is a very quick moving species, especially if being attacked by predators such as wrasses and breams. It has been recorded feeding on detritus and algae. This species usually has a red coloured disc with five arms that are brown, pink or red with banding along each arm. It has a maximum arm span of approximately 12 cm.
