The Orange Seastar (Ophidiaster confertus) is a large skinny seastar species that belongs to the Ophidiasteridae family. This species can be found in sub-tropical waters on rocky and coral reefs where it is a common species. It is found in the waters of the western Pacific and is recorded along the east coast of Australia down to Fish rock in New South Wales and is common around the reefs of Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands. It can be found at low tide on reef platforms down to depths of 30 metres. This species is generally always orange in colour and it is very rare to have any colour variation. This species is known to feed on sessile invertebrates and detritus. The Orange Seastar (Ophidiaster confertus has a maximum arm length of 25 cm.
