Colemans Seastar(Echinaster colemani)
Colemans Seastar

The Coleman’s Seastar (Echinaster colemani) was named after Australia’s Marine Naturalist Neville Coleman who first discovered this species in 1968 on the east coast of Australia. It was first found in Jervis Bay in southern New South Wales but its distribution is from Ulladulla in southern New South Wales to Moreton Bay in Queensland. It is also found around the waters of Norfolk Island in the south-western Pacific Ocean. This species is generally observed in depths of 18 metres or greater and has been recorded to depths of 70 metres. It can be recognised by its five arms, and red/brown/orange surface colouration. The Coleman’s Seastar (Echinaster colemani) has a maximum arm radius of approximately 14cm.
