Blue Seastar(Linckia laevigata)
Blue Seastar


The Blue Seastar (Linckia laevigata) is a striking coloured species that is bright blue in colouration. It is part of the Ophidiasteridae seastar family. It is a tropical species that can be found through out the waters of the Indo-Pacific and around the northern part of Australia. It is common on the Great Barrier Reef and is often found by people exploring the reef at low tide in small coral rock pools. It is found from the low tide mark down to depths of 60 metres. The Blue Seastar (Linckia laevigata) is known to feed on algae and grows to a maximum arm width of approximately 40 cm.
