The Spotted Stingaree (Urolophus gigas) is an Australian southern waters species that belongs to the Stingaree family Urolophidae. It is distributed around Australia’s south coast from Albany in Western Australia to Port Phillip Bay in Victoria. It is generally dark brown to black in colour with white blotches and markings on its body and tail. These marking are more dominant in the juveniles as the adults can sometimes be all black without the white markings. The Spotted Stingaree can be found in the shallow waters of coastal estuaries and bays and has been recorded to a depth of 35 metres. It can be found around areas with seagrass meadows or rocky reef. The Spotted Stingaree grows to a maximum size of approximately 70cm.
