The Strapweed Seagrass (Posidonia australis) is a very important seagrass species that is endemic to the waters of Australia. This seagrass species can be found growing in sheltered waterways such as estuaries, harbours and bays. Its distribution extends from Shark Bay in Western Australia around the south to Port Stephens in New South Wales. It can be found growing in sandy/silty bottoms from depths of 0 to 15 metres. Large meadows of Strapweed provide important habitat for fish and crustaceans. Posidonia australis has a maximum leaf length of approximately 45cm and 2cm wide.
