The Softcoral Crab (Thalamita sp) appears to be an undescribed crab species that can be found living in estuaries around the central New South Wales coast in New South Wales – Australia. Species in the Thalamita genus usually have five teeth on either side of the carapace with large animals approaching 100mm in carapace width however most animals are considerably smaller than this. The colour of these species varies considerably depending on the species and they are usually a shade of blue, green or brown and frequently mottled. They can be found occurring in intertidal and subtidal coastal waters, associated with soft bottoms, rocks seagrasses, corals and sponges. This species is known to live in the cauliflower soft coral Dendronephthya sp that is found in sandy/silty bottoms. The Softcoral Crab (Thalamita sp) has a carapace width of at least 5cm.
