Reef Bannerfish(Heniochus acuminatus)
Reef Bannerfish

The Reef Bannerfish (Heniochus acuminatus) looks very similar in appearance to the Schooling/Longfin Bannerfish (Heniochus diphreutes) however it differs with the second dark band finishing behind the tip of the anal fin compared to the band in Heniochus diphreutes which finishes at the tip of the anal fin. It can be found in the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region from the Red Sea and east Africa to Indonesia, Philippines, French Polynesia, south west Japan and the waters of northern Australia. In Australia it can be found along the west and east coast and occurs as far south as Jervis Bay in New South Wales. The body is coloured white with two black bands and it also has a longer snout than Heniochus diphreutes. It can be found on coral reefs from depths of 2 – 75 metres and it is often found in pairs. The Reef Bannerfish (Heniochus acuminatus) grows to a maximum length of approximately 25cm.
