Whitestreak Monocle Bream


The Whitestreak Monocle Bream (Scolopsis ciliatus) is a tropical fish species that is also commonly referred to as the ‘Saw-Jawed Monocle Bream’ and it is a member of the ‘Coral breams’ family Nemipteridae. It can be found occurring in the East Indo-Asian Pacific region and its distribution extends from the Andaman Sea and the Solomon Islands across to Vanuatu and north to the waters of south-west Japan. The body is pale grey with 2-4 longitudinal rows of orange spots on the side and a white streak below the base of the dorsal fin. This species can often be found in small groups on sandy bottoms adjacent to coral reefs. It is known to feed on benthic invertebrates and small fishes. The Whitestreak Monocle Bream (Scolopsis ciliatus) grows to a maximum length of approximately 25cm.
