The Elegant Squat Lobster (Allogalathea elegans) is a small tropical crustacean species that is a member of the ‘Squat Lobster’ family Galatheidae. It is a tropical species and can be found occurring throughout the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region. They can be found living in Crinoids, commonly known as feather stars. Crinoids are classified as echinoderms, (members of the Phylum Echinodermata), which means "spiny skin" and includes seastars, sea cucumbers and sea urchins. The Elegant Squat Lobster can be found hiding amongst the fronds of crinoids and when disturbed it raised its claws in defence. The colouration of this species generally matches the colouration of its host crinoid. The Elegant Squat Lobster (Allogalathea elegans) grows to a maximum length of approximately 2.5cm.
