The Platypus Egg Cowry (Primovula platysia) is a small tropical cowry species that belongs to the cowry family Ovulidae. This species is the found in the tropical waters of the Indo-Western pacific region and has been recorded in north western Australia, Indonesia and on the east coast of Australia as far south as Port Stephens on the New South Wales central coast. This species can be recognised by its white body with relatively large black spots and orange tips at each send. This species name can be attributed to the fact that its dorsal aspect of the shell has a similar feature to that of the Australian Platypus. This species can be found on Echinogorgia sp gorgonian and also on green/blue coloured gorgonian whip soft corals that can be found growing out of the sand.
The Platypus Egg Cowry (Primovula platysia) grows to a maximum length of approximately 1cm.
