The Howland’s Egg Cowry (Primovula howlandae) belongs to the Allied cowry family Ovulidae and is known to occur in the warm waters of tropical Australia. It can be found along the east coast of Australia as far south as Port Stephens in central New South Wales. The Howland’s Egg Cowry is known to occur on a blue/green whip gorgonian that is generally found growing out of the sand and also on the small yellow Euplexaura sp gorgonian fan. This species can be identified by its white body that is covered in small black spots and the foot and siphon of this species is always black.
The Howland’s Egg Cowry (Primovula howlandae) grows to a maximum length of approximately 1 cm.
