Drapers Egg Cowry


The Draper’s Egg Cowry (Primovula draperi) is a small tropical Allied Cowry that belongs to the cowry family Ovulidae. This species is known to occur along the east coast of Australia and it commonly found in Port Stephens in central New South Wales. This species can be found on the small yellow Euplexaura sp gorgonian fan which is generally found in shallow inshore waters that have good currents. This species can be identified by its white mantle, which has small brown/orange spots all over it. The shell of the species is white and occasionally has orange coloured markings on it. This species has been recorded from depths of 8 to 20 metres however it’s depth range is most likely confined to the location of the Euplexaura sp gorgonian fans.

The Draper’s Egg Cowry (Primovula draperi) grows to a maximum length of approximately 1.5cm.
