Titan Triggerfish(Balistoides virides)
Titan Triggerfish

The Titan Triggerfish (Balistoides virides) is the largest of the Triggerfishes family (Balistidae) and can be found in the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region. It is known to occur from the Red Sea to East Africa to the waters of southern Japan and Australia. This species can be found on coral reefs from depths of 3 to 50 metres. This species is easily recognised by its large body that is coloured dark blue/grey and has yellow-green patches on it. Above the top lip is a dark line giving the appearance of a moustache. During nesting season the female becomes very territorial and may often attack approaching scuba divers. This species can give a painful bit to any unlucky diver that approaches to close. The Titan Triggerfish (Balistoides virides) grows to a maximum length of approximately 75cm.
