The Stars & Stripes Toadfish (Arothron hispidus) is a tropical species that is widespread throughout the waters of the Indo-Pacific region. In Australia, it has been recorded as far south as Perth on the west coast and as far south as Sydney on the east coast. It can be found close inshore in estuaries and coastal embayments and large adults can sometimes be found hiding under ledges and in caves. The body is generally light grey to dark brown and has white spots all over the body. Juveniles also have white stripes along the underside of the body. The Stars & Stripes Toadfish grows to a maximum size of 50cm.
