The Splendid Chromodoris (Chromodoris splendida) nudibranch is only found in southern Queensland waters and along the coast of NSW. It belongs to the Chromodorididae family and is a very common species, especially around the NSW central and south coasts. It can be found in amongst sponge gardens on coastal rocky reefs and estuaries. The body colour of Chromodoris splendida is white and has a thin yellow border that is along the outside of the mantle. It generally has many large red spots over the body and the further north the species is found (northern NSW-Southern QLD) the spots become larger but also reduce in number. It has red rhinophores and the gills are white with red colouration. It grows to a maximum size of approximately 8cm.
