The Reef-top Pipefish (Corythoichthys_haematopterus) has a widespread distribution throughout the waters of the western Pacific. There are several other pipefish species that are confused with the Reef-top Pipefish. The Reef-top Pipefish is distinguished by a series of small dark spots along upper ridges and thin lines across head between eyes. It is generally found in sheltered inner reefs and lagoons with rubble bottoms. It can also be found on large coral heads and in lagoons/fjords with semi-silty bottoms. Adults are generally always in pairs and the Reef-top Pipefish grows to a maximum size of 17cm.
