The Banded Pipefish (Dunckerocampus dactyliophorus) is a pipefish species that belongs to the Syngnathidae family. In some books it has also been called Doryrhamphus dactyliophorus. It is found in the waters of the western Pacific including locations such as Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. It is a shallow water species (less than 10 metres) that can be found in inshore coral estuaries and shallow coral lagoons. When found inshore it is generally in semi-silty habitats with rubble bottoms. They can usually be found hiding under crevices or in small caves as this provides protection. The Banded Pipefish also as cleaner species as they before cleaning activities on fishes with other shrimp species. They grow to a maximum length of approximately 18cm.
