The Banded Cleaner Shrimp (Stenopus hispidis) is a large shrimp species that is commonly found throughout tropical waters. It is widespread in the waters of the Indo-West Pacific regions. In Australia it has been recorded as fat south as Rottnest Island off Pert on the west coast and down into southern NSW on the east coast. The species is easily recognised by its red and white banding that extends along the body. They are often found in pairs, and females will often pair with smaller males and take residence at the front of caves and crevices and act as a cleaner station. They are most common on coastal reefs and can be found at depths of –25cm. The Banded Cleaner Shrimp grows to a maximum size of 10cm.
