The Tailspot Squirrelfish (Sargocentron caudimaculatum) is known to occur in the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region and is a member of the ‘Soldierfishes/Squirrelfishes’ family Holocentridae. This squirrelfish is known occur from the Red Sea and east Africa across to French Polynesia, north to the waters of southern Japan and south to the Great Barrier Reef off Queensland in Australia. The body is coloured red with a variable amount of silver/white towards the rear and on the tail. There is generally a silver-white streak on the upper section of the gill cover. It may be found in small groups or solitary on coral reefs from depths of 6 to 40 metres. The Tailspot Squirrelfish (Sargocentron caudimaculatum) grows to a maximum length of approximately 25cm.
