The Speckled Grubfish (Parapercis hexophtalma) is a tropical fish species that is a member of the ‘Grubfishes/Sandperches’ family Pinguipedidae. It can be found in the warm waters of the Indo-western Pacific region and is known to occur from the Red Sea and East Africa across to Fiji. It is quite common in the islands of the western Pacific region such as Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. This species is easily recognised by the large black blotch on the tail. The body and the head are spotted however large males generally feature lines on the cheek region instead. The upper section of the body is coloured greenish to brownish grey whilst the lower two-thirds is white with 3 to 4 longitudinal rows of small dark brown spots. This species can be found living on sandy/rubble bottoms of coral reef areas. The Speckled Grubfish (Parapercis hexophtalma) is known to grow a maximum length of approximately 29cm.
