Scaly Chromis(Chromis lepidolepis)
Scaly Chromis

The Scaly Chromis (Chromis lepidolepis) is a small tropical fish species that is a member of the ‘Damselfishes’ family Pomacentridae. It can be found occurring in the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific region and its distribution extends from the Red Sea and east Africa to Line Island in the eastern central Pacific, north to south-west Japan and south to north-east Australia and New Caledonia. The body is coloured grey to brown with dark tips on the tail fin lobes and a dark blotch on the middle edge of anal fin. There are also black tips on the dorsal fin rays. It has a white eye with a vertical black bar. This species looks similar in appearance to several other species (such as Chromis atripes, C. amboinensis, C. elerae, C. ternatensis and C. weberi and a good system to distinguish between these species is to look carefully at the spots on the fins and at the colour of the eye. This species can be found living on coral reef slopes, shoreline reefs and in lagoons. The Scaly Chromis (Chromis lepidolepis) grows to a maximum length of approximately 8cm.
