The Pale Tail Chromis (Chromis xanthura) is also commonly referred to as the ‘Black Chromis’ and is a small tropical fish species that belongs to the ‘Damselfishes family Pomacentridae. This species can be found occurring in the Indo-Pacific region and its distribution extends from the Cocos-Keeling Islands to Indonesia, east to French Polynesia, north to south-western Japan and down to northern Australia and New Caledonia. The body of this species is dark charcoal-grey to black with a white tail including the base however the white does not extend to the rear dorsal and anal fins. This species can be found on coral reefs and it usually can be seen in small groups from depths of 3 to 40 metres. The Pale Tail Chromis (Chromis xanthura) grows to a maximum length of approximately 15cm.
