Painted Rock Lobster(Panulirus versicolor)
Painted Rock Lobster


The Painted Rock Lobster (Panulirus versicolor) is a tropical lobster species that is a member of the Palinuridae family. Species in the Palinuridae family are known as ‘Spiny Lobsters’ and they lack claws. This species can be found occurring in the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region and it can be recognised it’s unique colouration. The carapace is white, black and the horns on the head are bright pink in colour. The abdomen is green with white and black bands and the legs are dark brown/black with longitudinal white lines. The tail is green. This species can be found hiding in crevices and caves of tropical coral reefs and during the daytime it hides within the shelter of the reef whilst at night it emerges to look for food. The Painted Rock Lobster (Panulirus versicolor) has a maximum body length of approximately 40cm.
