The Orbicular Cardinalfish (Sphaeramia orbicularis) is a small fish species and is a member of the ‘Cardinalfishes’ family Apogonidae. It is known to occur in the Indo-Pacific region from east Africa to Kirbati in the central Pacific, north to Japan and south to New Caledonia and north-eastern Australia. It has been found in the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Vietnam. This species can be found in shallow water (in depths of less than 3 metres) and cab be found hovering amongst shallow reefs and mangroves. The body is grey in colour with silver reflections and it has a dark black bar that extends vertically through the middle of the body with small dark spots in the rear section. It is generally found in small schools. The Orbicular Cardinalfish (Sphaeramia orbicularis) grows to a maximum length of approximately 11 cm.
