The Lined Surgeonfish (Acanthurus lineatus) is a tropical fish species that is a member of the ‘Surgeonfishes’ family Acanthuridae. It can be found occurring in the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific region and is known to occur from East Africa to the Hawaiian Islands, north to southern Japan and south to the Great Barrier Reef of Queensland in Australia. S similar looking species Acanthurus sohal can be found in the Red Sea. This species is easily recognised by its yellow coloured upper body with several blue bands. This species can be found living on coral reefs and is considered to be territorial as the large males control well defined feeding territories and harems of females. It is an herbivorous species however it is known to feed on crustaceans. The Lined Surgeonfish (Acanthurus lineatus) grows to a maximum length of approximately 38cm.
