Bastard Trumpeter(Latridopsis forsteri)

The Bastard Trumpeter (Latridopsis forsteri) is a temperate water fish species that belongs to the fish family Latrididae which includes the ‘Trumpeters’ species. The Bastard Trumpeter is also commonly referred to as the Silver Trumpeter and in New Zealand it is called Copper Moki. It can be found occurring in the east Indian Ocean and Southwest Pacific and can be found in Australia from South Australia around to Sydney in New South Wales, including the waters of Tasmania, and in New Zealand. The body is silver-grey in colour with various shades of brown along the back and the caudal fin of adults has a distinct black margin along the posterior edge. This species is generally solitary however it can be found in small aggregations and migrates in large aggregations. It is generally found over sandy bottoms adjacent to reefs. The Bastard Trumpeter (Latridopsis forsteri) grows to a maximum length of approximately 65cm.
