The Epaulette Soldierfish (Myripristis kuntee) can be found in warm tropical waters of the Indian and western Pacific Oceans and is a member of the Squirrelfishes/Soldierfishes family (Holocentridae). It is known to occur from the Seychelles to Hawaii and French Polynesia and across to south western Japan and the northern coast of Australia. In Australia it is known to occur from Broome in Wester Australia around the north coast to Moreton Bay in Queensland. It is generally found on coral reefs and large schools of the fish can be found under ledges or on wrecks. It is occasionally solitary however it general seen in groups often mixed in with other fish species. The body is red or pink in colour and there is small black band behind the head. The Epaulette Soldierfish (Myripristis kuntee) grows to a maximum length of approximately 20cm.
