The Banded Morwong (Cheilodactylus spectabilis) is a temperate water fish species that belong to the Morwongs family Cheilodactylidae. This species can be found around the south-eastern Australia coast and is known to occur from Seal Rocks in New South Wales around to the waters of Victoria. It is commonly found in Tasmanian waters and is also known to occur on the north Island of New Zealand where it is also known as ‘Red Moki’. This species can be identified by its red coloured body, which has several white bandings however these bandings become less noticeable in large adults. It can be found on shallow rocky reefs down to depths of approximately 50 metres. The Banded Morwong (Cheilodactylus spectabilis) is known to grow to at least 1 metre in length.
