The Thornfish (Bovichtus angustifrons) is a temperate water species that belongs to the Thornfishes family Bovichtidae. It is found in the southern waters of Australia in South Australia, Victoria and around the coast of Tasmania. The colour of the Thornfish can vary from grey to red with marbled patterns and the colours generally match the surroundings. It can be found in shallow waters down to depths of at least 20 metres. It is generally found on rocky reefs and can also be found amongst the pylons and rubble underneath jetties. They often hide in amongst the sponge waiting for small prey that may pass by. The Thornfish grows to a maximum size of approximately 28cm.
