The Smoothspine Leatherjacket (Cantheschenia longipinnis) is a species that likes to inhabitant deep water and is not commonly seen by divers. It is generally found in deeper waters around the Australian coast from depths of 50 to 150 metres. The species is endemic to Australia (meaning it is only be found in Australian waters) and prefers the cooler waters of southern Australia. It can be found from the Coffs Harbour region in northern New South Wales around the south coast of Australia to the central coast of Western Australia.
The species is generally brown or orange in colour and may have small spots on the body. The Smoothspine Leatherjacket grows to a maximum length of approximately 23cm.
